Growing up is a risky business. It’s a fact. Developmental risks coupled with environmental risks make the journey through adolescence tough. Every kid needs positive role models and supportive people to help along the way. Every kid needs to learn and practice essential life skills to better navigate the challenging passage to adulthood.

Simply stated, we as educators and caring adults need to help reduce the risks and increase the protective factors in their lives. At its best, prevention education does just that, by helping kids bond with positive peers, providing information about the risks, and building skills that make growing up a little less risky and a lot more fun.
